Somewhat Shorter David Brooks
From the New York Times:
When John Kerry notes that there is not enough money in Social Security to set up private accounts while continuing to pay out benefits at their current rates--something my dear colleague Paul Krugman has been pointing out for the last four years--he is a wildman, a lunatic and a danger to the country. When Joh Kerry notes that that the military is severly overstretched--a point made clear by the transfer of the Blackhorse combat training regiment to Iraq--and that Bush may have to resort to a draft, he is a wildman, a lunatic and a danger to the country.
When John Kerry notes that the Vice President's daughter is not a lesbian by choice--much to the embarassment of the Christian right, which finds the whole subject icky but tantalizing--he is a wildman, a lunatic and a danger to the country.
When John Kerry notes that rmedical research which includes stem cells is likely to be more productive than medical research without stem cell--something which even a stem cell would acknowledge--he is a wildman, a lunatic and a danger to the country.
"The truth, however, is that voters are not idiots. They are capable of independent thought. If you attack your opponent wildly, ruthlessly, they will come to their own conclusions."
